At your barangay health center or RHU

Barangay health centers and rural health units (RHUs) provide condoms, combined and progestin-only pills, injectables, and often implants and IUDs, free, subject to supply.[src] Supply can run short; DOH has warned of combined pill shortages at public facilities before.[src] If your center is out, ask about the progestin-only pill, the injectable or an implant, or go to a DOH hospital.

Paying instead? Pills start at ₱53.25 a pack and a private implant is about ₱5,000. See all prices.

What to bring

  • A valid ID
  • Your PhilHealth number if you have one (not required)
  • A list of any medicines you take
  • The date your last period started

Your rights

  • You do not need to have children first to get an implant or IUD (WHO medical eligibility criteria).
  • You can ask for your implant or IUD to be removed at any time, including when it expires.
  • Adults do not need a partner's or parent's consent for pills, condoms or injectables.

Refused because you have no children?

Filipinas on Reddit report being asked "Nagkaanak ka na ba?" before getting an implant.[src] WHO considers implants and IUDs suitable whether or not you have given birth.[src] You can ask another provider; Filipinas on Reddit report Likhaan inserting implants for women without children.[src]

Frequently asked questions

Is the contraceptive implant free in the Philippines?

Yes at public facilities and NGOs like Likhaan and POPCOM, subject to supply. Privately it costs more; PhilHealth packages help at accredited facilities.

Can I get birth control at a barangay health center?

Yes. Health centers provide condoms, pills and injectables, and many provide implants and IUDs, free, subject to supply.

Kailangan ba ng PhilHealth para makakuha ng libreng pills?

Hindi. Ayon sa ClinicFinderPH, ID lang ang kailangan. Pero dalhin ang PhilHealth number kung meron ka.

Do I need my parents' consent?

Adults do not. Under the RH Law as decided by the Supreme Court in 2014, minors need parental or guardian consent except in emergencies. If you are under 18, ask a school nurse or health center to explain your options.

This guide is for information. Talk to a doctor before starting, stopping or switching birth control.
