The difference, explained
"Which one is better, Depo or implant?" is a common question in the Philippines. Both are progestin-only and suitable for many people who cannot take estrogen. Both commonly change bleeding patterns, often to irregular or no bleeding.
The differences: the implant does not depend on you returning on time, so it is more effective in real life. Fertility returns quickly after implant removal, but can take up to a year after the last Depo shot. Some Depo users gain weight. Depo needs no procedure, only an injection, which some people prefer.
Both are free at public facilities, subject to supply. Privately, Depo costs ₱300 to ₱900 per shot and an implant about ₱5,000 for 3 years.
Which may suit you
- Depo (injectable) may suit you if: You prefer a shot to a small procedure and are not planning pregnancy soon.
- Implant may suit you if: You want the most effective option with one visit and quick fertility return.
